Pastoral Care and Wellbeing

After weeks of anticipation, the first 2021 Pastoral Care year 9 and 10 soccer tournament was upon us. It was time for our team to put our weeks of planning and preparation into action. After arriving at the ground, we were quickly briefed on the layout for the day, then the games were underway.

In our first game we played Keysborough year 10A team. They scored early but our own Abdullahi Abdi equalized the score for a one-all draw. Our second game was against Meadow Fair’s year 10 team. We beat them in a convincing 3-0 win. These two games gave us enough points to go through to the semi-final. There we played Keysborough's year 9 team who we beat in a tense 2-0 victory, both goals scored by IDC’s Alperen Ergisi. In the final we played Keysborough year 10A team, the team we drew to in the first game. The stage was set for an epic finale.

After only a few minutes of play, Keysborough took the lead. But only moments later, IDC’s Abdullahi Abdi scored for us with his left, levelling the score. Then, with a kick from the other side of the ground, Keysborough got the ball over our keeper and into the net. We were down 2-1, and headed into the second half with heavy hearts. However, with some quick passing movement through the centre of the pitch, Abdullahi Abdi scored once again, but lots of credit had to go to Alperen Ergisi who set him up brilliantly with a perfect pass. Things were level at 2-2. It was late in the game, knowing a penalty shootout would be difficult to win I took the game to them. Dribbling a player and passing to Nurdin Hassan on the wing, I positioned myself perfectly just outside the box. Nurdin, with some nice hold up play, passes the ball to me and I succeed first time. The ball flies past the keeper and into the net. The crowd goes wild! We all know what this means! IDC took the lead for the first time in the game. We defended our goal with our lives for the remainder of the game, blocking any shot that came our way. And with the final whistle we were champions!

We were given a trophy and individual medals, to congratulate our triumph. Abdullahi Abdi was awarded best player of the tournament, and rightly so. Filled with joy we celebrated with cheers and laughs. All those weeks of planning had paid off. We were champions of the first 2021 Pastoral Care year 9 and 10 soccer tournament!
